Wing It 101: Run Run as Fast as You Can

We have officially done a first and second run of the Stratosphere!

The picture above is a close-up of the plastic beads used to make discs.  These beads come in a huge box on a palette called a Gaylord.  Between our two runs, we found out that we can get about 3000 discs from 1 Gaylord of plastic.  This plastic is mixed with other colored beads to create the cool patterns that we have been seeing with our discs.  The way these discs are run, there actually has to be someone there at the mold the whole time adding the different colored beads in by hand which gives us some of those incredible varieties we’ve been seeing.

The above discs are pictures from our first run.  There were about 1500 of these made and they were sent out for the Infinite Disc VIP club.  We have had some really good feedback from those discs.

Below are some of the discs from our second run of about another 1500 discs.  Based on some of the feedback from the first run, we had the mold polished again to get rid of any sanding marks.  These marks were minimal but anything in the mold will show up on the disc, so with a freshly buffed and polished mold, we were able to get our discs coming out looking shinier.  The second adjustment we made wasn’t with the mold but after the discs come out of the mold.  We asked Freeform Polymers to run a deburring tool around the edge of the disc.  This helps remove the flashing around the edge that was causing the discs to have a bit of a sharp edge feel from the first run.  We are super happy with how it turned out.  Again, you can see the amazing color combos we keep getting.

We are using Infinite Discs as our distributor, so if you haven’t already, you’ll want to head over to their website (https://infinitediscs.com/) and sign up for their newsletter.  The plan is for these discs to go on sale later this month and if you are subscribed to their newsletter you won’t miss it when it becomes available or ask your favorite disc shop to stock the Stratosphere by contacting Infinite Discs.

Eric had a chance to take the second run Stratosphere out for a spin and said it felt great!

We have more coming up soon so keep your eyes peeled.  We’ve been doing some more experimenting which may or may not pay off.  More on that soon.

Until next time, this is Jamin, just winging it.
